Can I borrow $25? (A touching story…)

A man came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find his 5-year old son waiting for him at the door.

SON: ‘Daddy, may I ask you a question?’

DAD: ‘Yeah sure, what it is?’ replied the man.

SON: ‘Daddy, how much do you make an hour?’

DAD: ‘That’s none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?’ the man said angrily.

SON: ‘I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?’

DAD: ‘If you must know, I make $50 an hour.’

SON: ‘Oh,’ the little boy replied, with his head down.

SON: ‘Daddy, may I please borrow $25?’

The father was furious, ‘If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I don’t work hard everyday for such childish frivolities.’

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.

The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy’s questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?

After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down , and started to think:

Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $25.00 and he really didn’t ask for money very often The man went to the door of the little boy’s room and opened the door.

‘Are you asleep, son?’ He asked.

‘No daddy, I’m awake,’ replied the boy.

‘I’ve been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier’ said the man. ‘It’s been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here’s the $25 you asked for.’

The little boy sat straight up, smiling. ‘Oh, thank you daddy!’ he yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills.

The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again.

The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father.

‘Why do you want more money if you already have some?’ the father grumbled.

‘Because I didn’t have enough, but now I do,’ the little boy replied.

‘Daddy, I have $50 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.’

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness.

It’s just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts. Do remember to share that $50 worth of your time with someone you love.

If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of hours. But the family & friends we leave behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives.

Got Milk for Weight Loss?

Got Milk for Weight Loss?

Johns Hopkins University

You might have heard it before or seen it in a commercial on TV: Milk and dairy products can help you lose weight. Can dairy really help tip the scales in your favor? It seems so. I took a look at the research out there and found a fairly significant number of studies, both in humans and animals, linking increased intake of low-fat dairy products to weight loss.

With an increased intake of dairy, you’ll also get the bonus of increased levels of calcium, which can also help you lose weight. How does calcium accomplish this? The general consensus among the studies I reviewed suggests that higher levels of calcium intake, particularly from low-fat sources, help to prevent fat storage, as well as to raise metabolism (the rate at which our bodies burn calories).

Calcium has also been linked to these other benefits:

It’s been estimated that human adults during the Stone Age ingested from 2,000 mg to 3,000 mg of calcium per day, 3 to 5 times the median calcium intake of present-day U.S. adults. Just how much calcium do we need today?

One study found significantly more weight loss in those people who consumed 1,200 mg of calcium per day, along with a low-calorie meal plan, than in those who consumed less calcium. This study suggested that the minimum intake from low- or non-fat dairy foods per day should be 1,000 mg.

Of course, some people, like my patients who have had weight-loss surgery, may need up to 2,500 mg of calcium a day. So it’s always a good idea to check with your doctor or a registered dietitian, especially since calcium can interfere with the action of certain medications.

Below are general calcium recommendations based on the Dietary Reference Intake (DRI):

Age (Years)

Calcium (mg/day)

Dairy Servings

1-3

500

3 servings

4-8

800

3 servings

9-18

1,300

4 servings

19-50

1,000

3 servings

51+

1,200

4 servings

Follow these tips to increase the calcium in your diet:

  • Use skim or 1-percent milk instead of water when cooking your oatmeal.
  • Try string cheese (part-skim milk mozzarella) as a snack.
  • Use Greek yogurt (non-fat or low fat), either with fresh fruit or added to skim or 1-percent milk and fruit, to make a yummy milk shake.
  • If you are lactose-intolerant, try Lactaid milk or calcium-fortified low-fat soy milk, or use the Lactaid pill when eating dairy to break down the indigestible milk sugar.
  • Also available is Lactaid low-fat cottage cheese.
  • Try low-fat ricotta cheese with artificial sweetener and cinnamon for a guilt-free treat that’s similar to the filling inside cannoli!
  • If your doctor recommends a calcium supplement, such as calcium citrate, remember to look at the amount of elemental calcium rather than calcium citrate in the bottle.
  • If you have kidney issues, calcium acetate is preferred over calcium citrate.
  • Keep your maximum dosage of calcium for one sitting to approximately 600 mg, since our bodies can’t absorb much more than this at one time.
  • Avoid taking calcium with your multivitamin or iron supplement because they compete for absorption.

Bone up on calcium in your diet and you just might lose weight in the process!

5 Essential Weight Loss Foods

There are many fad diets that promise to help you lose weight in almost no time at all. After two or three weeks on the diet you find yourself losing enough to be able to brag to your family and friends about it, and you’re so optimistic that this new lifestyle will be your ticket to a smaller waistline that you start to browse the stores for new clothes.

You continue to lose weight for another couple of weeks, and then something happens: you start to feel sluggish, you begin craving something that your diet absolutely forbids you to have, or the general sense of optimism begins to transform itself into a feeling of constriction, frustration, and even dietary imprisonment.

You decide to have just one snack, or spend just one day eating whatever you want with the intention of going back to the diet the following day. What happens then, is that you feel such satisfaction from that treat that the entire effort falls apart and you put the weight back on in practically no time at all.

Does this scenario sound at all familiar?

Diets are very hard, as is the feeling of being overweight. Many of these fad diets may promise instant and significant weight loss results, but most of them rely on depriving your body of certain nutrients and disrupting the natural function of your body’s metabolism. Chinese medicine considers obesity to be partly the result of declining function of the metabolic fire of the kidney network and a diet that provides a well-balanced array of nutrients is the key to losing weight in a healthy way. What follows are five foods that will help you restore your body’s ability to use energy and help you become your healthy weight.

1. Millet: A well-balanced diet should consist of whole grains instead of refined grains like white rice and pasta, and millet is a beneficial and delicious staple of this category of food. This non-glutinous grain is over 10-percent protein, has high amounts of fiber and B-complex vitamins, and because it isn’t an acid forming food, is easy to digest.

2. Asparagus: When losing weight, it’s important to favor chlorophyll-rich foods, including asparagus. Asparagus is a nutrient-rich vegetable packed with folate, vitamins A, C, and K, and fiber. Asparagus also contains a carbohydrate known as inulin (not to be confused with insulin) that promotes healthy bacteria in the large intestine - which in turn promotes a healthier digestive function.

3. Pomegranates: Eating a balanced diet to lose weight should include eating fresh fruits, and pomegranates are a wonderful example of a healthy, nutritious fruit that has antioxidant properties and will help prevent cancer. While the benefits of drinking pomegranate juice have gained a lot of attention recently, you will be more likely to lose weight by eating the fruit fresh to increase your fiber intake and keep the calories down.

4. Pine Nuts: Pine nuts are the edible seeds of pine trees and are considered an essential ingredient in the tasty Italian mixture pesto. Chinese medicine uses pine nuts to improve gastrointestinal tract and digestive functions, and pine nut oil is even used for appetite suppression. Pine nuts and other nuts are a tasty part of a well-balanced diet intended for weight loss.

5. Green Tea: It has been found that consuming large amounts of coffee and caffeine can lead to food cravings, increase one’s appetite, and induce stress-related eating. Green tea is a wonderful alternative to coffee in that it does provide a little caffeine but also contains beneficial antioxidants. So drink up!

A healthy diet also includes lean proteins like chicken breast, legumes such as lentils, and other whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. While fad diets may promise a large amount of weight loss in a short period of time, there’s almost a guarantee that you will put that weight back on-and then some!

Eat five smaller meals a day, avoid processed foods, chew more slowly, and incorporate more healthy foods into your diet-starting with these five. Also, click here to learn more about the Tao of Wellness B-Slim dietary supplement, which will help you lose weight naturally.

I hope this article helps you find foods that can aid in your weight loss goals! I invite you to visit often and share your own personal health and longevity tips with me.

May you live long, live strong, and live happy!

Olympic Girls Measured By Judges

12:26pm UK, Thursday August 21, 2008

Alex Watts, Sky News Online,
In Beijing

Olympic hostesses had to strip naked so their body proportions could be measured to ensure only the most perfect women represented China at the Games.

Beijing Olympics Hostesses

Chinese officials picked girls that looked identical

But so great was the honour to hand out medals at the Beijing Games that they all agreed to shed their Chinese silk dresses and bare all.

This was just one of the meticulous demands for the women who would end up in the glare of the world’s media.

The Beijing Organising Committee for the Games of the 29th Olympiad (BOCOG) also required the candidates’ eyes to be exactly 30% down the length of their face.

Their faces needed to meet stringent standards, including the ratio between the "width of the nose and the length of the face" and "width of the mouth and width between the pupils".

The girls all had to be university-educated, aged 18 to 24, and between 5ft 5in and 5ft 8in, with a "ruddy and shiny complexion", "elastic skin" and "a plump but not fat body".

The judges examined 5,000 girls from Beijing and Shanghai colleges until a final 297 were selected to be "Olympic victory ceremony volunteers".

They were then sent on a rigorous "charm boot camp" in Beijing’s northern Changping district.

Their training was intense, with lessons from 6.30am to 11pm, in body-shaping, dancing, manners, ceremony processes and basic Olympic knowledge.

They were made to stand for hours in high-heels, and learned to hone the perfect smiles by spending hours in front of a mirror with a chopstick between their teeth.

"In the standing sessions, we had to stand still and smile for half an hour or more," said 20-year-old hostess Ma Sha.

"We also ran about 1,000 metres every day for physical conditioning."

But all the girls believe the training and selection process was worth it and are proud to be representing their country at the podium.

"I’ve always dreamed of being a guide hostess for the table tennis athletes at the Olympic venue," said Yang Xu, 19.

"We have worked so much, simply to give for a few minutes a good impression at the Olympic victory ceremony as we want to show the most beautiful aspect of oriental ladies across the world," said another of the candidates, Li Ziye, with a perfect - if robotic - beaming smile.

Hmm… so, anyone regretted for not finding out about this any earlier? Perhaps you might want to apply for one of the judge’s post… :p

Banzai Wild Waves Water Park Box Picture Vs Reality

Bonzai Wild Waves Water Park...

You know how people says that sometimes looks can be deceiving? Well, check this out! Apparently, some parent bought this for their kids and found out the hard way…

Here are some reviews from some purchasers…

"I have two preschoolers (ages 2 and 4) and this pool is just the right size for them."

"It is the worst product I’d ever bought from Toys R US and I’ll never go to Six Flags! Don’t buy it."

"One person can’t slide down the slide while one person is in the pool let alone have 2 people sitting in it! The slide is so small and when you turn on the hose to let the sprinklers come down the orange top collapses and has no use!"

"As every one else has said this pool is tiny maybe good for 1 or 2 toddlers. Picture on the front is NOT accurate. A 6 year old can’t go down the slide with his legs out because they hit the wall. My 3 year old hardly fit. Buy a sprinkler for $5.00 my kids had more fun with that."

Also, just so you know that the manufacturer actually has a fine print which goes something like this at the bottom of the box, somewhere…

"Product may not be as appears on image"

I guess shopping will simply never be the same again…

If you are interested in some feedbacks from purchasers of this product, click here, here or here for some "complaints".

The Classic Tomato Story…

A jobless man applied for the position of ‘office boy’ at Microsoft. The HR manager interviewed him then watched him cleaning the floor as a test.

‘You are employed’ he said. Give me your e-mail address and I’ll send you the application to fill in, as well as date when you may start.

The man replied ‘But I don’t have a computer, neither an email’.

‘I’m sorry’, said the HR manager. If you don’t have an email, that means you do not exist. And who doesn’t exist, cannot have the job.’

The man left with no hope at all. He didn’t know what to do, with only $10 in his pocket. He then decided to go to the supermarket and buy a 10Kg tomato crate.
He then sold the tomatoes in a door to door round. In less than two hours, he succeeded to double his capital. He repeated the operation three times,
and returned home with $60.

The man realized that he can survive by this way, and started to go everyday earlier, and return late. Thus, his money doubled or tripled everyday.

Shortly, he bought a cart, then a truck, and then he had his own fleet of delivery vehicles.

5 years later, the man is one of the biggest food retailers in the US …
He started to plan his family’s future, and decided to have a life insurance.

He called an insurance broker, and chose a protection plan. When the conversation was concluded the broker asked him his email. The man replied,’I don’t have an email.’ The broker answered curiously, ‘You don’t have an email, and yet have succeeded to build an empire. Can you imagine what you could have been if you had an e mail?!!’ The man thought for a while and replied, ‘Yes, I’d be an office boy at Microsoft!’

Moral of the story

Moral 1
Internet is not the solution to your life.

Moral 2
If you don’t have Internet, and work hard, you can be a millionaire.

Moral 3
If you received this message by email, you are closer to being a office boy/girl,than a millionaire……….

P.S - Do not forward this email back to me, I am closing my email account & going to sell tomatoes!!!
