Garbage collector with heart of gold…

I don’t really know what else to say… her action should make many people (including myself) being ashamed of themselves. What she is doing is purely from the sincerity and kindness of her heart. There are a few sites which covered this story, so I am just going to provide you the links. Go read them… it’s the least you could do…

For someone who earns so little with such hard work, believe me when I tell you she deserves real recognition for her work and she has set an example for those capable ones (again including myself) to make a difference. Stop spending on unnecessary luxuries and start doing some charity works. If Madam Li Yukun can do it, I don’t see why anyone of us can’t. Being selfish will get you nowhere. Help those in need by sparing what you can afford to not own… emoticon

It’s Christmas… again!

Merry Christmas to all of you whom are reading… emoticon

Now, where should I start? How about the bad news first before the good ones? emoticon

1) Some morons banged the rear driver side bumper of mine and left in a hurry. According to eye-witnesses, that moron drives a rather old car bearing registration number WCB2836. If any one of you see this car somewhere, call me or leave me a message here. I am going to make this moron pay for his recklessness and for not taking up their responsibilities! It’s going to cost me a couple of hundreds to fix this… emoticon

Too much bad news is never a good thing, so let’s just stop here. Now, for the good news…

My probation is now over and I am confirmed! Wait… that is not the best part. I was lucky enough that I just made it in time for a small bonus! Oh well, it’s not exactly a HUGE amount, but even a decent and tiny one will definitely make this worthwhile. At least it refreshes me of how I felt when I started working somewhat 15 years ago. Hehehe… it’s been a while since I received such a tiny sum… emoticon but it’s all good! It did indeed bring back memories of the past…

Although the organization I am working for is currently undergoing some major changes, I am still rather positive of the future and potential it holds. If everyone under the same roof continue to improve and work as a team, I have no doubt that we will emerge even stronger, probably the best regionally if not globally. Some may ask why wouldn’t I include too much information or details in my postings. Well, it’s simple. I have said what I wanted to say and needed to say. If you know me, you will know the details and fill in the blanks. If you are a just an avid follower or reader, I am quite sure I did a good job in maintaining the thrill and suspense, yet making my postings interesting enough for you to continue reading till today… emoticon

So, Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year! emoticon

16 months…

Without realizing it, it’s been 16 months since my last post. The last 16 months of my life was filled with much ups and downs, so much that at times it’s unbearable.

So, you must be thinking, what brought me back. No need to guess. I’ll tell you…

My mum is sick. As of now, I have no one to talk to, or rather, I don’t know what to talk to even if I have someone to talk with. As of now, it’s still unclear what is my mum’s condition. Apart from detecting multiple small particles, possible stones in her gallbladder, it still unexplained why she vomited blood and passing out black stools on Sunday. When I was informed about this by my sister who lived with her, I was dumb-founded. I was so afraid to go through the entire process all over again. I did my best to regain composure and went online to find out more about medical conditions with her symptoms. I did not like what I found. Regardless, I am still being optimistic. Things might not be as bad as I think it might be… hopefully.

Just when I was able to overcome my own thoughts, I was blown away with another news. A good friend and a good mentor of mine was involved in an accident. His family and some family friends were traveling back to town when their car broke down. While him, his wife and his son got out of the car to check out the cause and probably find a solution, they were hit by a trailer. It all happened in the matter of seconds. I am not giving details about the accident which took the life of an innocent and bright girl, not because I was asked to do so, but because I felt there is no need to do so. While there are so many versions by the media, some of them were actually close to the actual facts but none were entirely correct. Of course, some didn’t even bother to get their story right by falsely identifying the wrong person as the driver and such. You may read a few version of the stories here, here and here. Me and a friend was at the scene of accident to help things out after receiving a distress call from the wife, claiming that the rescue units are not there yet despite numerous calls. The whole episode was simply devastating. Without telling anyone in details, I am faced with 2 extremely stressful event at the same point of my life. The pressure and stress are simply indescribable. To be honest, I can’t even focus my mind on basically anything. I am like an empty shell at work today. I don’t feel like talking and I seriously don’t feel like answering any questions.

Right now, I just hope my mum will get better real soon and so will Uncle Lew…

I quit! (my job for 13 years!)

Enough said.

p/s : To my boss, screw you and screw your ego, your mentality, your bullshit, your blank promises, your fake front, your arrogance, your lousy speech, your lame management, your ability to make all the good staffs leaves and your success in making the organization getting from worse to worst! I should have left much earlier and I am not proud to leave only after so long despite advices from everyone, and that’s including your own relatives! You should be ashamed of yourself and wake up to reality! You are not what or who you think you are. Loser…

And to my other boss, I am sorry to have to leave in such scenario. I just can’t take those shit from that loser anymore. I know I must have disappointed you after you put so much effort and hope in me. I just want you to know that I have not forgot every single thing you have taught me throughout my stay with the organization and I tend to use my knowledge and make you proud of in the future. Please forgive me for making such a selfish decision. I simply can’t work for someone I lost respect of. I am sorry…

Yesterday was a real tiring day… very few turned up to help out at the farm yesterday. I would foresee even fewer people would turn up this coming weekend as it is going to be Father’s Day… *sigh*

Anyway, the farm has quite a few visitors and new volunteers yesterday. One particular group are from Uptown Pets Centre located in Damansara Utama. They brought some dog’s food and other necessities. I took this picture here to thank all of you for your support…

And thanks to Dave and Shimi, my friends whom volunteered to help out at the farm yesterday. It really meant a lot to me, the farm and all the furry friends there… if you decided to help out again, I’ll make sure you get to bath some of the furry friends… :P

Now, for those who has yet to register at the new website, please do so by clicking here

Should there be anyone interested in volunteering at the farm this coming weekend, please get in touch with me… we need some extra hands all the time… :)

Furry Friends Farm - Sarah and Shannon…

KLANG: When Australians Sarah Wren and Shannon Muche read that dogs had been abandoned on Pulau Selat Kering, they immediately wanted to help.

“We read what had happened when we were in Vietnam and decided that we would help care for the rescued dogs when we came to Malaysia en route to London,” said Wren, 28.

Animal lovers: Muche (left) talking to Wren at the Furry Friends Farm in Kundang.

Both Wren and Muche contacted Furry Friends Farm (FFF) founder Sabrina Yeap as soon as they arrived in Malaysia.

They are currently volunteering their services by helping to take care of the dogs rescued from Pulau Selat Kering at the FFF sanctuary in Kundang near Rawang.

The dogs were dumped on Pulau Selat Kering by Pulau Ketam residents recently with the endorsement of the Klang municipal councillor in charge of the island Tee Beng Lee.

Wren, who owned a pet accessories business in Brisbane before selling it off to travel several months ago, said she was shocked to read about the dogs.

“It is disgusting to know that people can be so cruel as to go out of their way to get rid of the poor strays in such a manner,” she said.

Website developer Muche, also 28, concurred, adding that it would take a lot of time for the rescued dogs to get over their ordeal.

“The dogs are still frightened and frail. It will take a long time for them to be rehabilitated,” she said.

Muche said Tee must ensure that all the surviving dogs on Pulau Selat Kering are rescued.

“He must be made fully responsible to get the dogs back as well as make provisions to rehabilitate them,” she said.

Even some outsiders cared and took time off their vacation to help these lovely creation. I simply don’t understand why are there people out there being that cruel and inhumane, dumping them at a place where they will have no chance of survival. We are all fed with the same food and we drank the same water. I can only conclude that those people lack awareness and education… and appreciation of life. Sometimes, I would rather human not being the dominant species on this planet. Let the dogs be. Afterall, the only time they fight is for food while we human fights for everything… you name it… wealth, power, a parking spot, the last bottle of 100 plus…

Fortunately, not everyone is like that. At least not at Furry Friends Farm… people there are warm, caring and they do their part in helping those in needs. Stop comparing us with those caring and helping out old folks home, orphanage and so on… there are others doing it and we all play our own part in helping those in needs in a different manner. We are helping! If you want to pick on someone, pick on those at Pulau Ketam that knew nothing but only eat, drink, sleep, make money and torture dogs. We are not like them! And those directly or indirectly involved with that big ORG picking on Furry Friends Farm, I really pity you… yes… YOU! You were once an animal lover, but that love for animals in you has long gone, blinded by your support for a greedy and money-hungry ORG who tells you EXACTLY what you wanted to hear… individually… I don’t hate you… not anymore. AllI have is pity for those little cats and dogs under your care…

Kuning… our hero…

Kuning’s no coward — he’s a deep-sea rescuer

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009 07:26:00

HIS name is Kuning and he’s fast gaining a reputation as a wonder dog, helping animal rescuers bring home fellow canines from the uninhabited islands off Pulau Ketam, Klang.

Indeed, according to pet rescuers, Kuning — who had gone missing two weeks ago — and his fellow pooch- Hitam are touted as the ‘leaders’ for aiding in rescue of 18 abandoned dogs.

Kuning was one of the first batch of dogs left by Pulau Ketam villagers on an isolated island. He swam from the mangroves to the nearest kelong (floating fish farm) where he and Hitam were adopted by the workers there.

Furry Friends Farm (FFF) principal Sabrina Yeap said that Kuning did not know what the rescue missions were about when they first started on May 2.

"We asked for the fishermen’s help but because of the jellyfish and sea snakes, we had discouraged them to go into the water. Unexpectedly, Kuning swam to the island one day. Some of the dogs there followed him and swam back out. It was as though he understood we were trying to lure out the dogs," related Yeap.

"The fishermen would then place cages on the boat and coax the swimming dogs into climbing onto the boats and straight into the cages."

She said the fluctuations between high and low tides had hampered rescue missions but the combined efforts of Kuning and Hitam and the fishermen helped to save time and speed up operations.

"Hitam would eat fish at the kelong and swim out to the island where he would actually cough out the food for the other dogs to eat," narrated Yeap.

FFF managed to rescue 21 dogs, three on their own and the rest with the ‘follow the leader’ style of Kuning and Hitam. Yeap said proudly: "They deserve medals."

Even the kelong workers felt safer with the two around as they proved to be excellent guards, barking and alerting the workers whenever anyone neared the place.

So, when free-spirited Kuning went missing, speculation was rife for about a fortnight about what could have happened — until he was found, safe and sound with veteran webmaster-blogger TV Smith, who was also doing rescue work. Kuning had been mistaken by two independent rescuers for one of the abandoned dogs and carted off for fostering.

But you can bet after a fully sponsored break with free board and breakfast and more, Kuning is back to business of being ‘lifeguard’.

If you wish to help…

Quote from Pummkin on her recent post

"I met Mrs. Kam Sun-Yoke three years ago during the launch of Dr. Dog Programme. We were so honoured to have had the presence of the first Malaysian soprano to be invited to sing in Barcelona Music Festival where Jose Carrera himself once performed, in the event. She is putting together a performance in aid of FFF after she saw the plight in the news. An animal rescuer herself, she will be conducting  the Operafest Children’s Choir on the 1 & 2 August 2009 and the entire proceeds thereof will go to Furry Friends Farm. The hall in Jaya One in Petaling Jaya has a 300 pax seating capacity & tickets are priced from RM30 per head. More details to follow. This would be a great opportunity for us to meet all you wonderful souls!!!

As such, I will work on the promotion of this concert but not without your help. If you know of anyone who would like to sponsor others to watch this concert, companies who want to sponsor a night out for the staff or individuals who would like to come and show support for FFF & appreciation to Mrs. Kam for her performance, please let me know. I can be reached at iam (at) pummkin (dot) net."

So, for those interested in this meaningful and charitable event, please get in touch with Pam and show your support to the Furry Friends Farm. Remember, you can make a difference too!

Alternatively, for those who are good with photography, perhaps you may help taking some wonderful and touching pictures of Furry Friends Farm and participate in the CIMB Foundation’s MYCAUSE Contest. The prize money will definitely help a lot when it comes to the relocation of Furry Friends Farm this year end. I know some volunteers are very good with their cameras. Perhaps you may use your exceptional photograhy skill to help Furry Friends Farm winning this contest… :)

For those who wish to donate in the form of money, you may bank-in to Furry Friends Farm account with CIMB Bank Malaysia. The account number is 1457-0001182-056. If Swift Code is required, CIMB Bank Malaysia’s Swift Code is CIBBMYKL.

You got tagged!

Yesterday was a really memorable day. For a start, YB Edward Lee of Bukit Gasing Constituency & state assemblyman and his son came to Furry Friends Farm for a personal visit. While they were there, they helped planted some nangka trees on a piece of land beside the cat’s sanctuary at Furry Friends Farm. Some members of the press were present too. TV Smith and Pam, alongside with members of the rescue secretariat were there too! I was so happy to be able to finally meet those others involved in this meaningful rescue mission… unfortunately, we were so lacked of manpower yesterday that I didn’t manage to have chat with them… *sigh*

Although all volunteers were drop dead tired yesterday by early evening, there are something nice to cheer everyone up. 2 furry friends were tagged! The first one was Honey. Honey is a little camera shy, so no pictures, but the second furry friend, Cash, is a celebrity dog. Cash love to have her picture taken.

Cash got tagged!

These tags were donated by volunteers at Furry Friends Farm. More will be made once the tags are deemed suitable for all the furry pals… the tags were so nice I wanted to make one for myself… emoticon

By the way, for those who wishes to see some of our furry friends from Furry Friends Farm in action, be sure to make yourself available on the 4th of July. Furry Friends Farm will be organising a fashion show, featuring 10 of our selected furry friend. Cash will most probably be one of them. If you would like to see them person, be sure to catch us at Bandar Utama’s Central Park from 9am to 12noon.

See you there! :)

Oh ya… for those whom are interested in reading the coverage on Furry Friends Farm last Sunday, you can read them here. I knew there are more but since I can’t read Chinese, I can’t exactly search for those articles online. I’ll post more when I find them… :)

Can I borrow $25? (A touching story…)

A man came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find his 5-year old son waiting for him at the door.

SON: ‘Daddy, may I ask you a question?’

DAD: ‘Yeah sure, what it is?’ replied the man.

SON: ‘Daddy, how much do you make an hour?’

DAD: ‘That’s none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?’ the man said angrily.

SON: ‘I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?’

DAD: ‘If you must know, I make $50 an hour.’

SON: ‘Oh,’ the little boy replied, with his head down.

SON: ‘Daddy, may I please borrow $25?’

The father was furious, ‘If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I don’t work hard everyday for such childish frivolities.’

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.

The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy’s questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?

After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down , and started to think:

Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $25.00 and he really didn’t ask for money very often The man went to the door of the little boy’s room and opened the door.

‘Are you asleep, son?’ He asked.

‘No daddy, I’m awake,’ replied the boy.

‘I’ve been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier’ said the man. ‘It’s been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here’s the $25 you asked for.’

The little boy sat straight up, smiling. ‘Oh, thank you daddy!’ he yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills.

The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again.

The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father.

‘Why do you want more money if you already have some?’ the father grumbled.

‘Because I didn’t have enough, but now I do,’ the little boy replied.

‘Daddy, I have $50 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.’

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness.

It’s just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts. Do remember to share that $50 worth of your time with someone you love.

If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of hours. But the family & friends we leave behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives.
